Our Picks – Best Router Tables 2017

1. Bosch RA1181 Benchtop Router Table
This router table has a squared aluminum base, but don’t let the light weight fool you – this table is stronger than it seems. Leaving your router mounted will not cause sagging, and the 8 adjustment screws (one for each corner, and one for each edge) mean you can get a perfect alignment, no matter your experience level. There is onboard storage in one of the table legs, although it’s probably a bit small for what you’ll need to store in it – we recommend assembling near a cabinet and reserving the leg for only your most-used tools.
Our favorite feature with this table is that there are mounting holes for many brands of routers – not just Bosch routers. This is wonderful, and the aluminum construction means that you can easily drill your own holes if your router isn’t directly supported. The accessories included are a great deal, making it hard to pass up if you’re looking for a router table that comes with everything.
2. Bench Dog 40-001 ProTop Contractor Benchtop Router Table
Bench Dog offers this professional level benchtop router table package for a very reasonable price, for what you get. The dust collection is by far its strongest feature, although there is no dust collection port for the cabinet, so it must be vacuumed by hand. (This vacuum is not included, but we recommend a good shop vac for your work room anyway.) We found that there were some minor issues when trying to level the table, as the back cabinet piece was about 1/32” shorter than the sides. This can be adjusted for, but at this price point, we expected these issues to be fixed.
We didn’t like that this table didn’t come with its own switch system, and although that was clearly mentioned in the product description, that makes it a bit of a hassle for beginners who may not have the experience required to find their own switches and install them. Overall, for those with more experience, this table is a great choice that balances functionality with a budget price.
3. Bench Dog Tools 40-102 ProMax Cast Iron Router Table Extension
While Bench Dog tables aren’t the most inclusive of the tables on our list (and, in fact, this table in particular is not designed for left-tilting blades), their relatively low price is seen as a compromise for those looking to get set up without a large initial investment. The alignments can take some time to master, but there are sufficient options to align the table to your preferences, as long as you’re willing to work at it.
All in all, this Bench Dog table extension is a solid choice for those who have a basic understanding of what they’re doing, or those who are easily accommodated by the default settings of the table. If you have the time and knowledge to get yourself a better set-up, and to assemble it with precision adjustments for your particular needs, you may be better suited to a higher-end table, but this set-up is great for beginners as little knowledge is required to get you running.
4. Kreg PRS1045 (KRS1035, PRS1025, PRS1015) Router Table with PRS3090 Caster, PRS3020 True-Flex, PRS3100 Router Table Switch, PRS3400 Set-Up Bars, and KRS7850 Router Table Stop
If you’re looking for a router table setup that comes with everything you need to get started, this combo pack comes with everything you need to get started. This kit is not available at such a low price from most local retailers, and the care that the seller has taken to ensure that all the pieces work together is very appreciated. This contains a caster, a switch, set-up bars, a table, and a True-Flex featherboard. (Note that all these items are listed in the product title, but in a different order.) It will take a few hours to get your table set up just right, but just imagine all the time (and money!) you’ll save by taking this package-deal, rather than finding and buying all the items separately.
Our only complaints with this table were that the instructions aren’t the clearest for an absolute beginner, but once you’ve figured out the assembly, use is pretty straight-forward. There is a possibility that your set-up may be slightly off if you’re trying to rush through the assembly process, and you will need to wax the contact points on the fence before they will slide freely. Beyond these potential set-up problems, this table is great for beginners and professionals alike – and, with the included accessories, you can’t go wrong.
When choosing a router table, no matter what your experience level may be, it’s important to keep a few things in mind when you start your search.
Is the table you’re looking at compatible with your router and/or your saws?
Is it part of a kit, which may include an adjustable fence, an adapter plate, or any other combination of tools to help you?
Is the router table manufactured (or endorsed) by a well-known router brand?
4. Included Jigs:
Does it come with the jigs you’ll need, such as a box joint jig or a circle jig?
While you should already have the basics down, does the router table you’re looking at come with an instruction manual?
6. Ease of Set-Up:
Is it time-efficient to set up your new table, according to other customer’s reviews?
While we’re on the topic of reviews, have other customers backed up the manufacturer’s claims about their product?
8. Your Budget:
Can you reasonably afford the router table you’re looking at?
